Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race 2015: the countdown is on!

The UBC Concrete Toboggan Team is making the final preparations for the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race, which takes place January 21 – 25, 2015 at UBC-O. This year, a full team of 30 students will be travelling to Kelowna for the competition. The team consists of 11 GNCTR veterans and 19 first-timers, representing mainly the Civil Department, but also the Geological, Materials, and Electrical Engineering Departments.

The team is proud of this year’s sustainable concrete mix design, which is comprised of over 70% post-consumer recycled materials, and of their lightweight concrete and timber composite ski design, which is an innovative approach in relation to previous years’ designs.

The team’s goal for this year’s competition is to improve from last year’s performance and to place among the top eight teams in the final competition standings. The Department of Civil Engineering wishes the Concrete Toboggan Team best of luck in the race!
