Civil Engineering Professor receives UBC’s highest Teaching Honour

Professor Perry Adebar received a UBC Killam Teaching Prize during the May 28, 2013 convocation ceremonies where the following award citation was read, detailing Adebar’s unique contributions to teaching at UBC: “A well-known structural engineer in the British Columbia construction industry, Dr. Adebar is an exceptional teacher, able to convey highly complex mathematical and solid mechanics principles to civil engineering students. He has built an effective teaching style that integrates the engineering principles in constructing buildings to motivate the students to enjoy learning solid mechanics. Of particular note is his awareness and concern for individual student’s progress, in spite of the large size of the classes he often teaches. His ability to establish a strong correlation between theory and engineering practice ensures that the material is always of relevance to the students.”

The highest teaching distinction at UBC, the UBC Killam Teaching Prizes are awarded annually from the Killam Endowment Fund to faculty nominated by students, colleagues, and alumni in recognition of excellence in teaching.
