Two Civil Engineering undergrads joined forces with two SALA students to design a tree house that placed first in the 2015 Fast + Epp Architectural Engineering Design Competition. Run in conjunction with CIVL 517, Prof. Thomas Tannert’s Advanced Topics in Timber Structures, the yearly competition aims to give engineering and architectural students first-hand experience working with each other from conception to the final design of a project. Evan Peatt (BASc ’15) and Noah Wong (BASc ’15) teamed up with SALA students Kate Mathers and Nicole Sylvia to create the winning design. Evan Peatt notes that “the competition was an extremely valuable experience…it taught us that for a design to be truly successful there must be a symbiotic relationship between the architect and engineer.”
