Organized by the UBC Engineering Undergraduate Society, this year’s Engineering Week (E-Week) took place from January 17 to 22.
An annual event that brings together students from across all UBC Engineering departments to compete, have fun, and show their pride, E-Week consisted of 16 events, which were a mixed of in-person and online.
E-Week’s signature events include Chariot Racing, Tug of War, and the 4-Legged Race. As a result of the ongoing global pandemic, this year’s event organizers innovated to hold many events through online platforms such as Discord, Twitch, and Zoom in order to allow more students to participate.
The flagship Old Red, New Red mixer, which typically brings together current students with alumni, was canceled this year.
In spite of the challenges, UBC Civil Engineering students were enthusiastic to participate, represent the Department, and build camaraderie with each other. After a promising start, the team did not place in top positions.
“E-Week was a fun experience. It was an opportunity for our group to bond and forget about our assignments for a while. Though we finished second to last, we all had fun doing it,” said Jay Qiu (Civil, ’24).
