Congratulations to the UBC Chapter of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) for winning the CSCE National President’s Best Student Chapter Award for the first time in UBC history!

Throughout the year, the student-run chapter held tours of Vancouver’s high profile construction sites, and hosted discussions and seminars with industry-leading professionals.  The highlight of the year, the UBC CSCE Industry Night, saw 384 students, faculty and industry members mix and mingle in the chapter’s largest industry night to date.  Under the direction of Justin Brown, VP-External, more than 20 events were held throughout the year, while each team member managed full time course loads.

Lead by Charles Noftall, President, the chapter has seen itself grow over the past two years from 20 members to 174 today and was honoured with “Most Improved Student Chapter in Canada” at last year’s award ceremony in Halifax, Nova Scotia, marking the first time the UBC Student Chapter had ever won an award from CSCE.  Curtis Flack and Tyler Ezzy (incoming President and VP-Internal, respectively) will be in Regina at the end of the month to accept the prestigious President’s Best award at the 2015 Canadian Society for Civil Engineering Annual Conference.

Dr. Thomas Tannert, Civil Engineering professor and CSCE Faculty advisor, notes of this year’s team: “This year’s executive of the UBC CSCE student chapter has done an absolutely outstanding job in expanding their outreach, visibility and activities. It has been a true pleasure to work with this group of student leaders and see the chapter grow…the CSCE President’s Best Student Chapter award is a well-deserved recognition!”
