Biography

Konrad Siu has over 40 years of engineering leadership and asset management experience in both the public and private sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, a Master of Engineering degree and a Master of Business Administration degree. He is also a graduate of the Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.  Konrad Siu is a Fellow of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineering.

Prior to his retirement from the City of Edmonton, he was the Transformation Manager responsible for leading and coordinating the establishment of a new Integrated Infrastructure Services department, Executive Director of a drainage tunneling and open cut team and Director of the Office of Infrastructure and Funding Strategy.  He established the Office in 2000 and was responsible for developing and implementing the city’s award-winning Infrastructure Strategy to address the growing needs of infrastructure investment.

He has been actively involved in advancing infrastructure asset management in Canada and has been invited to serve on numerous national committees, including the Canadian Infrastructure Report Card Steering Committee (member 2010 – 2012),  National Core Public Infrastructure Advisory Committee to Infrastructure Canada (co-chair 2009 – 2010), Public Sector Accounting Board Task Force on Assessment of Tangible Capital Assets (member 2006 – 2008), National Round Table on Sustainable Infrastructure and National Asset Management Working Group (member 2005 – 2008) and Decision Making and Investment Planning Technical Committee of the National Guide to Sustainable Municipal Infrastructure (InfraGuide) (vice-chair 2001 – 2005). He is currently a member of the External Review Committee to Infrastructure Canada and also a member of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Municipal Asset Management Program Technical Working Group.

Konrad Siu has been invited to speak at numerous conferences and institutes, including to the World Bank in 2006 and also as the keynote speaker at the Governmental Asset Management Congress in Dubai in 2013. Before his appointment with UBC, Konrad has been invited as a guest lecturer for several under-graduate and graduate courses at the University of Alberta and also at UBC since 2003,
