Biography

Dr. Doo-Yeol Yoo is currently an Affiliate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and a Professor in the Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering at Yonsei University in Seoul, Republic of Korea. He also serves as Director of the Advanced Construction Materials Laboratory, where he leads pioneering research in high-performance and sustainable construction materials.

He is a Council Member of the Korea Concrete Institute (KCI) and a Member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI). He has served on the organizing and technical committees of several international conferences and currently holds editorial roles as an Associate Editor for the Alexandria Engineering Journal (Elsevier) and as an editorial board member for several leading journals, including Cement & Concrete Composites (Elsevier), Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio), and npj Materials Sustainability (Nature Portfolio), among others.

As of 2025, he has published over 280 SCIE-indexed journal articles, which have received more than 15,260 citations with an h-index of 68 (Scopus). He has led 29 competitive research projects with total funding exceeding USD 3.9 million, and he holds 12 domestic patents. His academic impact has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Editor of Distinction Award from Springer Nature (2025), and repeated inclusion in Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists list (2021–2023), where he was ranked 53rd globally in the Building & Construction field in 2023. He was elected to the Young Korean Academy of Science and Technology (Y-KAST) and received the Presidential Award of the Republic of Korea as part of the 25th Young Scientist Award. Additional accolades include the Best Paper Award from the International Journal of Concrete Structures and Materials (Springer Nature) and a Commendation from the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea.
