Overview

The Ph.D. in Civil Engineering is a research-intensive program designed for students pursuing advanced, independent research in their chosen specialization. Graduates of this program are prepared for leadership roles in academia, industry, and beyond. For a full list of research areas, visit our Research page.

Ph.D. students complete 30 credits of coursework, a research thesis, and a 1-credit graduate seminar. They must also submit a research proposal and pass a comprehensive exam to demonstrate their expertise and research readiness. While students are encouraged to complete their degree within five years, the timeline may vary based on research progress.

Research is conducted under the guidance of a Supervisory Committee, and students are expected to meet with their committee annually to review progress and receive feedback.
