This February, the UBC Concrete Toboggan Team competed in London, Ontario at the 40th annual GNCTR against 24 North American Universities and Technical Institutions. The team spent five days networking with over 400 students, Western University Alumni and industry representatives. The team raced with an all new, component-based design and after some last minute adjustments, made multiple successful runs down the race hill. The concrete in the UBC toboggan this year was made with entirely recycled aggregate and other alterations to make it exceptionally sustainable. This was the first year the UBC team attempted a full superstructure around the toboggan and the team was awarded the 3rd Safest Overall Toboggan Design. The competition was a great success and the UBC team is beginning preparations for next year’s competition in Kelowna, BC.
