Appointment Process

Applicants for a position as a new sessional lecturer will have post-secondary training experience and a record that provides evidence of teaching effectiveness as an instructor or teaching assistant in a field relevant to the course in question. The successful applicant will have completed a Masters’ degree in a relevant field before teaching starts. Candidates are expected to have excellent communication skills and working knowledge of modern teaching methods and supporting tools.
Applications of current members of the Civil Engineering Sessional Pool will include:
- A letter of application or indication of preferences noting availability, and desired course/s.
- A current CV including relevant educational background, teaching and research experience, and training, publications, and/or awards and qualifications for teaching.
- Indicate your P.Eng. status. Applicants for Design courses must include confirmation of P.Eng. (with APEGBC) in their application dossier.
Applications of NEW Sessional Lecturers will include:
- A letter of application or indication of preferences noting availability, and desired course/s.
- A current CV including relevant educational background, teaching and research experience, and training, publications, and/or awards and qualifications for teaching.
- Indicate your P.Eng. status. Applicants for Design courses must include confirmation of P.Eng. (with APEGBC) in their application dossier.
- Names and full contact information of at least two referees able to speak to applicant’s teaching qualifications.
Sessional Lecturer positions will be governed by UBC’s “Agreement on Conditions of Appointment for Sessional Faculty Members”
