Third Quadrant Design (TQD) is an interdisciplinary design team that supports the education, design, and adoption of regeneratively designed buildings.TQD is currently competing in the 2023 Solar Decathlon Build Challenge, an international collegiate competition organized by the U.S. Department of Energy that challenges teams to design and build energy efficient and innovative buildings. As part of this challenge, the team has been given approval to design and develop a small building as an addition to UBC’s Vancouver campus that functions as an informal learning space for applied science students, and as a hub of regenerative design activities.
TQD previously competed in the 2020 and 2021 Solar Decathlon Design Challenge and consecutively placed first in the urban single family and mixed use multifamily divisions. The team has ambitions to once again repeat this success.
TQD offers members learning opportunities in the green building sector through our integrated design process, industry led workshops and seminars, building science education, training in industry software (Revit, OneClick, etc.), as well as hands-on design and construction opportunities. Our members come from a variety of educational backgrounds including engineering, architecture, finance, commerce, and reflect the building industry’s need to become more integrated. Members have historically gone on to find placements at Vancouver’s leading design and consulting firms.
