UBC Graduate Student Society

The Graduate Student Society (GSS) is the independent voice of graduate students on campus.

The UBC Graduate Student Society represents and advocates on behalf of all UBC Graduate Students to the University, the Government, and the public. We provide academic, professional, social, and recreational services to our members, and act as stewards of the Thea Koerner House Graduate Student Centre.

GSS is an organization that: advocates for and protects the interests of graduate students at UBC, supports graduate students in their studies or facing academic problems, organizes social, sport, and recreational events, and publishes GSS newsletters weekly for all graduate students. operates the Thea Koerner House Graduate Student Centre, including Koerner’s Pub, Thea’s Lounge, and more. 

The GSS Advocates on such issues as:

  • Timely payment of research stipends, teaching assistant stipends, and major scholarships
  • Communication between departments and administration at UBC
  • Improved relations between supervisors and students
  • Creation of opportunities, resources, events, etc.
